The CAPPAero design approach was inspired by studying how real scientists use their pipettes. We noticed that for most workflows, scientists aspirate liquids at three or four specific volumes and spend a lot of time adjusting the volume knob as they go. This approach is not only inefficient but also frustrating for busy professionals. We sought to increase efficiency by providing scientists with the option to use pre-calibrated fixed and variable volume knobs on the same pipette-body. Switching volume knobs on CAPPAero fixed volume pipettes is quick and easy and the design also reduces the risk of repetitive strain injury in users.

All CAPPAero pipettes have the capacity to work with with additional pre-fixed or variable plungers designed for each specific volume. So, if you order the variable volume CAPPAero pipette, ranging from 100µL to 1000µL (i.e. C1000-1), you can opt for extra fixed volume knobs that are designed for that specific capacity. The ordering numbers for the optional fixed volume pipette knobs are simple and straightforward, allowing for easy interpretation. The first number represents the capacity of the pipette, while the last number represents the capacity of the plunger. So, when you order the CAPPAero 100-1000µL (i.e. C1000-1) pipette with the 1000-FE-1000 (pre-set fixed volume plunger of 1000µL), the 1000-FE-500 (pre-set fixed volume plunger of 500µL), and the 1000-FE-100 (of 100µL) you effectively have 4 instruments in 1! You get a 100-1000µL variable volume pipette along with the 1000µL, 500µL, and 100µL pre-set fixed volume plungers/pipettes – all packed in one pipette body!

Owners of CAPPAero and Ecopipette variable volume pipettes can save on the costs of ordering several fixed volume pipettes by choosing these affordable pre-set fixed volume pipette knobs. For easier ordering, we include the volume capacity of the pipette shaft in the order number of each fixed volume knob. This means that the 200-FE-100 fixed volume pipette knob can only be used on a CAPPAero/ecopipette ranging from 20µL to 200µL (i.e. C200-1), to pipette 100µL of pre-set fixed fluid volume. Likewise, the 1000-FE-500 pipette plunger only works on the CAPPAero/ecopipette ranging from 100µL to 1000µL (i.e. C1000-1).
